Loan

The GA joint library is a reference library. The collection contains 435,043 volumes and 334 current journals.

For students: 10 books over the weekend (from Fridays 11 am to Mondays 4 pm)
(RUB and UA Ruhr students are entitled to borrow books. To borrow books, you need a student ID and the semester ticket or a certificate of enrollment).
For employees and chairs: 20 books for 4 weeks
For external visitors: unfortunately not possible. However, you are welcome to work within the library and use our free book scanners. Please remember to bring a USB stick.

During opening hours, 2 scanners (please bring your own USB stick) and a scanning tent are available.

Weekend loan

Weekend loan always starts on Fridays from 11 a.m. until the following Monday until 4 pm at the latest.

Arsenic contamination in books from the 19th century

You have probably already heard from recent press reports that the library world is currently concerned about the arsenic contamination of books from the 19th century. The GA Joint Library also has holdings from this period in all areas that are potentially contaminated with arsenic.

As a first measure, we must therefore also impose a lending ban on books published between 1800 until 1900. As arsenic is not released into the air, there is no danger when using the library.

If you have to work with books from the 19th century in the library, you can pick up appropriate protective clothing from the supervisor.
