For our students, the University Library is not only a place of learning, but also a piece of home. Through our interior design, we are now bringing a piece of Bochum’s coal-mining history into our library, thereby creating a special atmosphere that not only encourages learning but also strengthens our connection to our region.
A total of seven ThinkTanks and six group study rooms have been equipped with new door signage and wall graphics; more are to follow.
Each group room is named after a historic coal mine from Bochum and the surrounding area, with the door and room design reflecting that name; short texts describe the history of the mines. The ThinkTanks were also given inspiring names with a direct connection to mining. Names like Glücksburg, Cleverbank, and Friedlicher Nachbar aim to bridge the past and the present and symbolically underscore the learning atmosphere in the University Library’s spaces.
In this way, the library aims not only to enhance the appeal of the spaces but also to keep a piece of Bochum’s history alive.
The library invites all students and interested visitors to explore the new study spaces and experience the inspiring atmosphere for themselves.
