During the day, staff members are on site at the University Library, regularly making rounds and thus maintaining a presence in the library. In addition, staff members are available at the information and service desk.
Outside of these hours, many students do not feel safe in the building. We have received numerous messages about this. We have therefore decided to only grant access to people who are registered in our library system*. From March 16, 2026, access to the Bochum University Library will therefore require the RUB Bib app and the corresponding barcode, which must be scanned at the entrance.
This will take place at the following times:
*Students and employees of RUB are automatically registered in our library system and do not need to take any further action.
