The eighth RUB Digital Humanities Day is just around the corner.

The theme of the event on September 30 and October 1, 2026, is “Collections as Research Data: Digitization, Access, and Use”. The conference promotes exchange among those interested in digital humanities at Ruhr University Bochum and within the Ruhr University Alliance; it also gives researchers and students the opportunity to showcase their digital research projects and discuss current issues in the digital humanities.

The program includes, among other things, events in the DH Space at the Bochum University Library (UB), a poster session, and a high-profile keynote address. In addition, the online panel “DH@MENA(-Lib.)” will be streamed into a room at the Bochum University Library. The panel is also open to interested parties outside Ruhr University and the Ruhr University Alliance.

The events are as diverse as the Digital Humanities themselves and include:

• Keynote: “Shared Data Alone Is Not Enough: Collections as Data—A Joint Endeavor of Collection Institutions and the Digital Humanities” (Anna Gnyp, German Maritime Museum)
• Poster Pitches and Poster Session
• Awarding of the UA Ruhr DH Certificate
• Workshop: “Collecting Data on the Internet - Web Scraping with Python” (Sebastian Gerhartz, Methodology Center at RUB)
• Workshop: “A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words: Tips & Tricks for Effective Data Visualization”  (Dr. Sarah Kritzler, University of Duisburg-Essen)
• Workshop: “From Topics to Discourses: Mixed-Method Approaches for Social Media Analysis” (Yvonne Kohlbrunn, RUB Center for Research Methods)
• Online Panel: “DH @ MENA(-Lib.)”
• and more
