The library of the RUB is one of Germany’s major university libraries. The network of the central university library and departmental libraries makes available some 4.2 million monographs and 6,000 journals. In addition, the library offers a wide range of online resources: about 60,000 electronic journals, 3,500 databases, and 15,000 e-books are at readers' disposal.
Open until late at night
Approximately 150 employees and numerous student assistants provide advice and support – and that seven days a week until late into the night at the central university library. Numerous reading and computer work stations and group study rooms in the departmental libraries are available for academic work. With an extensive range of courses on catalogues and databases, the university library helps with literature researches. These introductions are supplemented by training in reference management software.
Media close at hand
Thanks to the departmental libraries, researchers of all disciplines find their literature in the direct vicinity of their workplace. A total of 2.6 million printed media and nearly 4,000 regularly printed journals are available here as a reference collection.
Close cooperations
All libraries cooperate closely with the central library, which is also organised into regional and national networks. The media of the library system can be found through a shared online catalogue (RUBopac). In addition, in the joint catalogue of the University Alliance Metropolis Ruhr (UAMR), users can also find media located at one of the three locations in the Ruhr area. Regional and national partnerships of the central university library and extensive contacts to libraries abroad to serve the exchange of ideas: in joint projects the libraries develop solutions for the information-related challenges of the future.
Libraries grow together
As part of the campus renovation, the organisation of the libraries is to be further improved and they are to grow closer together in terms of space. The users will then find the entire range of the RUB library in four large library areas.
