On this page we have listed the services offered by the departmental libraries of the RUB during operations under Covid-19 conditions. You will have to comply with the valid hygiene rules and wear a face mask when entering the libraries.

 Archeology

  • Work spaces:The library provides a small number of workspaces for members of the Institute of Archaeological Studies subject to previous registration. Please check the Homepage of the Library [German] for information on the exact conditions or contact the librarian. Entry is restricted to people with a booked workspace, 3G proof is required.
  • The library also offers a scan service in compliance with the copyright law and the loan of up to 5 books for members of the Institute of Archaeological Studies.

 Biology und Biotechnology

  • The library is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm. 12 work spaces are available.
  • The library participates in the scan service of the RUB libraries.
  • Lending: Books can be borrowed for 1 week with the option of one renewal.
  • The computers, photocopiers and scanners can not be used.
  • The valid hygiene rules have to be observed, a medical face mask must be worn at all times.

 East Asian Studies

  • Borrowing and returning books: From the 6th of September 2021 students and staff of the Faculty of East Asian Studies can do so in the library during these opening times:
    Tuesday and Thursday from 11 am to 4 pm
    Up to six people are allowed to be in the library at any given time. Each user can stay for up to one hour.
  • Work spaces: The library offers six work spaces for students of the Faculty of East Asian Studies which can be booked on a daily basis. The spaces are available on the following days and have to booked via the library homepage in advance:
    Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 am to 4 pm

 Economics, GD-Library

  • Opening times:
    Monday to Friday from 8 am to 8 pm
    The 3G rule applies: when entering the library, proof of complete vaccination / recovery or a negative corona rapid test (not older than 24 hours) must be presented. This applies to members of the RUB only.
    External users have to present proof of complete vaccination / recovery (2G rule).
    A medical face mask must be worn at all times
  • Work spaces: Students of the Faculty of Economics who are currently writing their bachelor's or master's thesis can work at an individually assigned work space in the library
  • Lending: To reduce personal contacts please use the order service to borrow books. Please request the required books via email to wiwi-bibl@rub.de. Please also supply your name and and library number. The books will be added to your library account and can be collected from the information desk of the departmental library on the following opening day.
  • Scan service: Members of the Faculty of Economics can order three scans (complete journal articles or up to 10% of a book) per week by sending this form via email to wiwi-bibl@rub.de

 Electrical Engineering and Information Technology

  • Loan and return of books: Borrowing and returning printed media is possible Monday to Friday 8.30 am to 4.30 pm.
    Renewals can also be requested via telephone or email.
  • The valid hygiene rules have to be observed, a medical mask must be worn at all times.
  • Work spaces: The library offers 15 work spaces to students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Proof of complete vaccination / recovery or a negative corona rapid test (not older than 24 hours) must be presented.

 German Studies (IDF)

  • Update 10.3.2021: Please note that the library has recently moved again. New location is  GB 04/47-49.
  • Lending: On Wednesdays you can borrow books (low-contact) from 12 pm (noon) to 2 pm. Please order the books you need via email. The loan period is one week.

 Hegel Archive

  • From the 6th of September 2021 the library will be open again for individual users: Monday to Thursday from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm, Friday from 8.30 am to 12 pm. Please arrange an appointment via phone or email. 3G proof is required. The valid hygiene rules have to be observed, a medical face mask must be worn at all times within the building.

  • If you need individual articles from the open stacks of the library, you can order the documents via email. The articles will be delivered in electronic form.

  • Visiting the library: The library can be entered after booking an appointment by clicking on the button "Terminbuchung" on the library's homepage during our opening times:
    Monday to Thursday: 10 am to 4 pm
    Each person can book two slots of one hour each per day, up to 30 people are allowed to be present in the library at any given time. When entering the library, proof of complete vaccination / recovery or a negative corona rapid test (not older than 24 hours) must be presented. You will also have to present a valid ID, either your student ID card or your personal ID card or your semester ticket.
    The valid hygiene rules have to be observed, a medical face mask must be worn at all times.
  • Borrowing books is possible - only for members of the RUB - whenever the library is open:
    - Students can borrow up to 5 books for one week
    - Staff can borrow up to 10 books for 4 weeks
  • External users are welcome to book an appointment for a library visit to use the literature on site, borrowing is not possible.
  • Scan service: The library participates in the scan service of the RUB libraries.

    Opening times:
    - Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 6 pm
    - Friday from 9 am to 4 pm
    Up to 90 people are allowed to be in the library at any given time. When entering the library, proof of complete vaccination / recovery or a negative corona rapid test (not older than 24 hours) must be presented, a medical face mask must be worn at all times.
    You can borrow and return books as well as copy and scan from the library's holdings on site again. Designated study places are also available, no booking required.
    As a RUB student you can book one of four places intended for actively taking part in an online event. In our booking system you can choose one of these time slots for an online meeting:
    Monday to Friday: 10 am to 12 pm | 12 pm to 2 pm | 2 pm to 4 pm

 Law (ZRS), GD-Library

  • Basic operations under Covid-19 conditions [German]
  • Opening times:
    Monday to Friday 8 am to 10 pm
    Saturday: 8 am to 5 pm
  • Access conditions
    - For RUB members: When entering the library, proof of complete vaccination / recovery or a negative corona rapid test (not older than 24 hours, in combination with a RUB student or staff ID card) must be presented (3G rule)
    - For external users: When entering the library, proof of complete vaccination / recovery must be presented (2G rule).
    - The valid hygiene and distance rules have to be observed, a medical face mask must be worn at all times.
    - Work spaces do not have to be booked anymore. Group study rooms are currently still closed.
  • Scan service: All members of the law faculty can order articles or excerpts of the ZRS holdings provided there is no access to the electronic versions of these sources. You can order complete journal articles as well as up to 10% from a book (according to copyright law: UrhG, § 60e, Abs. 5). Repeated orders from the same book adding up to more than 10% are a breach of copyright and therefore inadmissible. Please send your scan request to zrs-info@rub.de stating your name and student ID card number or the faculty chair. Please make sure you provide detailed bibliographic data such as author, title, pages as well as the ZRS library shelf mark. Click here for further information on the scan service [German].
  • All e-media resources of the Law (ZRS) Library
  • Access to the beck-eLibrary
    Because of the Corona situation the ZRS has expanded its ebook resources. Therefore the license for the database beck-eLibrary has been extended until the 31st of March 2022. It contains works of the publishers C.H. BECK LSW, C.H. Beck RSW, Haufe, MWV, Schäffer-Poeschel, UVK, Vahlen and Versus. The eLibrary that you have access to via the RUB's VPN tunnel particularly also includes legal textbooks.
  • Access to Juris via VPN
    As of now RUB students can access the Juris database (Juris Spectrum, Juris Staudinger and the Hochschulmodul) via the VPN tunnel. The tunnel also provides access to other databases such as Wolters Kluwer).

 Medical ethics and history of medicine


 Medicine

  • Work spaces: Students of the Faculty of Medicine can reserve a dedicated work space. A total of 34 work spaces are available which can be used within the opening times from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 8.30 pm. Various options are available.     You need to book a work space if you want to enter the library. When entering the library, proof of complete vaccination / recovery must be presented (2G rule). The valid hygiene rules have to be observed, a medical face mask must be worn at all times.

 Philology

  • Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 9.30 am to 5 pm
    Up to 50 people are allowed to be in the library at any given time. 3G proof is required. The valid hygiene and distance rules have to be observed, a medical face mask must be worn at all times. Detailed access modalities can be found on the homepage of the library [German].
  • Borrowing items: The number of loans is limited to 10 items with a loan period of up to two weeks.
  • Scan service: If you only need a journal article or a book chapter (up to 10% of the book), please use the scan service.
  • Zoom conferences: If you need to take part in an online event, you can reserve one of 8 dedicated work spaces (equipped with LAN sockets) on floor 3 by reporting to the staffed desk on floor 4 or calling 0234 / 32 22756 in advance. Each person can book up to 3 time slots per week. Available slots are:
    Monday to Friday 10 am to 12 pm ; 12 pm to 2 pm ; 2 pm to 4 pm

  • Our opening times:
    Monday to Thursday from 10 am to 5 pm
    Friday from 11 am to 4 pm
  • Lending: To reduce personal contacts please use the order service to borrow books.
  • Order:
    Please order the books you want to borrow in advance by e-mail to sowibib (at) rub.de and state
    - your name, address, telephone and matriculation number
    - the full shelf mark, title and author of the required book
    A maximum of 10 books (no journals) can be ordered. The loan period is 14 days.
  • Collecting/returning books: You can collect the ordered titles from the library on the following opening day or after notification by email. After entering the faculty library, please contact the information desk directly. There you will receive the books with as little contact as possible. A trolley is positioned in front of the information desk for returning the books.
  • Scan service: Members of the Faculty of Social Science can order three scans (complete journal articles or up to 10% of a book) per week by sending an email to scandienst-sowi (at) rub .de . Here you can find more information about the scan service [German].

 Sport Science

  • Opening concept of the library of sports science 10/11/2021:
  • Return to regular opening times:
    Mon- Thu 9:00 am-5:45 pm
    Friday 9:00 am - 3:45 pm
  • 3G (2G vignette) is checked by staff when entering the library.
  • Return to the reference library:
    Night borrowing possible from Monday to Thursday from 5 pm, return on the following day by 10 am. Friday loan from 10 am until the following Monday 10 am (max. 5 books) These will be put back on the shelves by the library staff.
  • Work rooms as well as individual work spaces can be used without booking. (2 users per room) (8 work spaces)
  • Open work spaces are set at a distance (14 work spaces). Make sure the windows are opened at regular intervals.
  • The scan service has been cancelled, the copier is accessible.

 Theology

  • From the 8th of November 2021 a limited number of students will be allowed to enter the library without prior booking. 3G proof is required. A medical face mask must be worn at all times. Please take a basket when entering the library to enable the counting of the users present.
  • Work spaces: The library offers 18 work spaces which have to be booked in advance. Please send a booking request to booking request.
    You will be assigned a specific work space on one of the three floors of the library by the staff at the issue desk.
  • Borrowing and returning books: Students of the Theological Faculty have the option of borrowing books from the library. A maximum of 5 books per person can be borrowed for a week. Please order the required books by sending this form as attachment to bibtheol (at )rub.de. Please state an appointment (from 10 am) for collection, which will be confirmed by the library staff. An appointment for returning books can be made via telephone or email.
    Lecturers and academic staff of the Faculty can borrow books for 4 weeks if a permit from the faculty chair is presented.
